I decided to offer this Free Wood Finishing Class because I have a great resource and it seemed like a waste not to share it with others!

The most frustrating thing when I began my woodworking journey was finishing!  I spent more time than I’m willing to admit trying to get that perfect wood finish.  I made a lot of mistakes, and I tried all sorts of products with varying degrees of success, but I was determined to figure it out.

This was before the internet, but a specialized wood finishing school called The National Wood Finishing Institute just happened to be near my house.  It was run by an amazing wood finisher and teacher named Mitch Kohanek.  I studied with Mitch for a while and he taught me the fundamentals of finishing.  I learned what makes a “good” wood finish and how to achieve it.

Mitch has a new wood finishing school and you can learn directly from the master by contacting him through Mitch’s Website  Mitch also teaches wood finishing at various schools around the country such as Marc Adams School of Woodworking.

I read every wood finishing book that I could find, and I continued to learn new and better ways to finish wood.  Over time, I started to get good at it.  At some point I made friends with Roland Johnson who wrote for Fine Woodworking Magazine.  In addition to testing equipment and writing for the magazine, Rollie also taught wood finishing at different places all over the country.  Rollie noticed some of my work and asked if I would like to teach wood finishing, too. That sounded pretty scary, and I told him that I would not do that!  I won’t bore you with all of the details, but through Rollie’s recommendation I began teaching, and it’s been a wonderful experience!

I’ve now taught wood finishing classes at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine, The Florida School of Woodwork, and at several other locations around the country.  I also toured to various different cities and presented seminars with The Woodworking Shows.

Teaching was a game changer for me.  It pushed me to ask more questions, to conduct more research, and learn how to explain wood finishing in a way that really helps people to be successful.

The big woodworking schools are a wonderful luxury.  The Center for Craftsmanship is a fabulous experience for those of us who love woodworking.  If you have the time and you can afford the tuition, travel expenses, and everything that that goes with it then I highly recommend taking one of their classes.

Unfortunately, not everyone can travel and attend classes at these schools.  But, you’re in luck!  I have decided to offer the exact same information (and More!) from my week long classes right here on my website.

I plan to share a LOT of wood finishing information! It will take time for me to add everything, so please check back because I will continuously add to, and update the information on this page.

This Class is 100% Free to You
